Mama Tea Herbal Tea
Mama Tea was founded by me, Anna Louise Simpson, busy mum of two young children. I discovered herbal tea during my first pregnancy. However, I struggled to find tasty herbal teas for the different stages of pregnancy, therefore I wanted to create my own range for other pregnant and breastfeeding women to enjoy. We have a different herbal tea for every stage of pregnancy and breastfeeding and we have made them taste good!
Tasty Herbal Teas to drink during Pregnancy
During my pregnancy, I discovered that there were lots of herbal teas to choose from but struggled in two aspects:
1. I didn't know which herbal teas were safe to take during pregnancy and which ones to avoid. My midwife had told me all about raspberry leaf tea but none of the brands that I found had instructions or warnings about when exactly I should start drinking this herbal tea (it is week 38 by the way!). Therefore, I was at a bit of a loss in this respect.
2. I also could not find any herbal teas that tasted good!! This is important to all of us and I just couldnt understand why the herbal teas that I drank all tasted so *healthy*, *bland*, *downright horrible*. Therefore, when I had the idea to come up with a range of herbal teas for pregnant and breastfeeding women, I wanted mine to TASTE GOOD!!
Herbal Teas
I consulted with one of the top medical herbalists in the UK, who is an expert on the herbs to use in pregnancy - Penelope Ody. Penelope was able to advise me which herbs to use for each tea and also advised me on the warnings to put on the teas, in able to give pregnant and breastfeeding women as much information as possible.
Caffeine-free
I enjoy lots of different teas and coffees, but there are times when it is good to cut down on your caffeine intake and enjoy a caffeine-free alternative. All of our Mama Teas are naturally caffeine-free. We have not used any chemical processes to get rid of the caffeine. We have just used natural herbs which don’t contain any caffeine.
Blending our Herbal Teas
Working with a Master Tea Blender, I took the principles of traditional tea blending and applied them to herbal tea, in order to make each Mama Tea taste really good. Sometimes, if you use only one herb on its own or don’t blend it properly, the tea can taste a little bitter. As a result, we wanted each Mama Tea to be blended to taste good whilst making sure that they all tasted very different.
Mumpreneur of Mama Tea
I started Mama Tea when I was breastfeeding my baby and was looking after my eldest who was a toddler at the time. I managed to do this because of the power of the internet, as I started Mama Tea from my dining room. I am one of many *mumpreneurs* who are building businesses from home using the internet and social media. I was lucky enough to win the Best Start-up Award in 2010 from the wonderful people at Mumpreneur UK. If you are a mum or a mum-to-be and are interested in how you go about starting up a business, please subscribe to my blog - The Mamapreneur.
